Auggie Buddy Browser Extension

Auggie Buddy is our browser extension for Chrome and Firefox, and this section describes it and adds to the rest of this policy. Its single purpose is to help you study alongside question banks such as UWorld, TrueLearn, and COMQUEST: you save facts into a personal study dictionary, see your matching notes in a side panel next to the question, and send those notes to Anki. The extension accesses four kinds of data, which it uses only to provide these features: personally identifiable information, authentication information, web history, and website content. We do not sell this data and do not use or share it for any purpose unrelated to the extension’s features, consistent with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

6.1 What the Extension Accesses

Personally identifiable information: your Auggie account and device identifiers, and, if you contact support from the extension, your email address and message. Authentication information: when you sign in, a sign-in token is exchanged for a time-limited Auggie session token that is stored on your device and sent only to Auggie’s own servers. Web history: the address and title of the study page you are on, so the side panel can show matching notes and keep your notes linked to their source. Website content: the text you select, the question on the page (a fingerprint plus up to 500 characters of its text), highlighted passages, images you add to a note, and any files you choose to import.

6.2 When Data Is Sent

Some data is sent only when you act. Choosing Send to Auggie or using the Submit note shortcut sends the selected text, the page address and title, the time, and your account ID so we can save the note. Using AI suggestions, term explanations, or quizzes sends the text you selected. Adding an image, or importing a file such as a PDF, Word, Excel, or text document, uploads it so we can build your notes. Other data is sent automatically while you are signed in: a short record of each question the panel detects (a fingerprint, up to 500 characters of the question text, and the page address), and a backup of your study settings and recent highlights (the highlighted text with its page address and title) so they carry over to another browser. The settings backup is on by default. It runs only while you are signed in, so signing out stops it, and you can remove the backed-up settings and highlights by deleting that data or your account as described below.

6.3 AI Features and Your Own Key

Text you send to Auggie’s AI features is processed on our behalf by OpenAI under its API terms. Under those terms, content sent to OpenAI through its API is not used to train OpenAI’s models, and is retained only briefly for abuse monitoring (currently up to 30 days) before deletion. If instead you enter your own API key for OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google, your text is sent directly to the provider you chose under that provider’s terms, which you should review; the key stays on your device and is never included in Auggie’s backup.

6.4 Sign-In

You sign in through our hosted sign-in page using Google or Apple via Firebase. Auggie receives a sign-in token only to confirm who you are and issues a session token that is stored on your device. The extension does not read your Google or Apple profile, email, or contacts, and requests no additional account scopes.

6.5 Service Providers

Google Cloud and Firebase host Auggie’s services and sign-in, and OpenAI generates results for Auggie’s AI features. These providers process extension data only to deliver these features.

6.6 What Stays on Your Device, and How to Delete Your Data

Your session token, any AI key you enter, and cached notes, drafts, and settings are stored in your browser. Diagnostic logs stay on your device unless you attach them to a support request. You can delete notes from the extension or the Auggie notebook at any time. To delete your account and the data associated with it, contact us at support@auggiehealth.us.

6.7 How Long We Keep Data

We keep extension data only as long as needed for the features above. Your notes, study dictionary, saved highlights, question-link records, stored AI history, and settings backup are kept while your account is active and until you delete them. When you delete an item or your account, we remove it from our active systems within 30 days and from routine backups within 90 days. Support messages are kept for up to 24 months. Text sent to OpenAI through its API is retained by OpenAI only briefly (currently up to 30 days), as described above. Data stored on your device stays until you clear it or remove the extension.
